Speaking of Care

"Caring"

"Speaking of Care"- kind of an ambiguous title for a blog.  It's actually quite basic.  Since I was a child, I've held the nicknames Carrie Cares, Care Bear, Carrie Beary, and my personal favorite, Caribou.  It's an easy play on words.  "Care" is thrown around casually in our vocabulary.  "I don't care."  "Take care!"  "Be careful!"  We care for others, we care for ourselves, we care for our community, possessions, relationships, causes, and environment.  Ideally, we are cared for as children and build a foundation to pass that along.  We like to think that someone will care for us in our later years- nobody wants to be alone.  I believe on some level that you get back what you give, but at the same time everybody is deserving of basic love and affection.  We need it as humans to thrive  and grow.

It's always been a sensitive word for me.  I've struggled my whole life with self-care and accepting the care of others, and am now caring for my two parents and have a large network of people I care deeply about.  It's an dialectical place to be in- there's a lot of push and pull.  I'm hoping that by observing patterns and behaviors in myself and others, I can find a better balance.
